DESCRIPTION

Car Eats Car is a cartoonish game in which you play as an evolving monster car in an exotic world. Your goal is to navigate platformer-style levels, avoid other monster cars, and evolve your car to be as big and strong as it can be!

Car Eats Car is a long-running game franchise that's been continuously evolving since its first release in 2011. In the latest game, Car Eats Car - Apocalypse Race, you get to control the protagonist, Beetle, in a series of aggressive platform races. Your opponents drive monster cars that have the ability to destroy or devour you, so you'll have to carefully navigate the levels and upgrade your vehicle in order to succeed.

One of the big draws of Car Eats Car is the series' zany, cartooney art style. Car Eats Car looks like it came straight from the imagination of an elementary school kid, and it's rife with exotic, childlike details. Big excavators with jaws where the digger arm should be are a mainstay of the series while driving around in a monster tank or putting rocket engines on your car are standard options. This is not a game that takes itself seriously, and it's great fun.

The other cars in Car Eats Car are trying to eat you, but you're far from defenseless. In addition to your ability to evade opponents with good driving, you have access to bombs, power-ups, turbo mode, and powerful attacks of your own. You can push enemies into obstacles and enjoy the results as the enemy cars crumple into pieces or explode.

In Car Eats Car - Apocalypse Race, you have access to a number of different vehicles. These include the Harvestor, the Tankominator, the Super Gun, Anti-Gravs, and the Mega Turbo car. In addition to being able to choose between these crazy monster cars, you can upgrade each vehicle to unlock its maximum performance. There's a big difference between a level 0 car and one that's been fully tricked out with all of the upgrades and levels.

To maximize your score, Car Eats Car allows you to do all sorts of interesting aerial stunts. Courses are filled with jumps, bumps, and ramps of all sorts, giving you plenty of opportunities to turn midair flips and more. By doing tricks often, you'll be able to rack up a massive high score and demolish the competition.

In many ways, Car Eats Car's gameplay is more reminiscent of a platformer than a traditional driving game. The game's 2d side camera, crazy enemies, and vertical mobility all make it play in a way that's not dissimilar to Mario - and the protagonist is even red. The big difference here is that unlike in Mario, you've got a super-powered monster car at your fingertips that's capable of shooting, blasting, and rocketing through enemies. This means that the game is a totally unique blend of multiple genres that work together in a very interesting way.

Car Eats Car - Apocalypse Race is free. It's supported by in-app purchases under a fairly standard mobile game model. Just like with other mobile games, getting everything upgraded immediately will cost real-life money, but playing for a few minutes each day and slowly working through the game's content is free.

How to play

Car Eats Car is full of lots of player options, including multiple vehicles, a plethora of upgrades, and more. One of the first things you'll want to do is match up your driving style and the challenges presented by each level with the appropriate vehicle. It might sound like a great idea to play as the tank all the time, but that's not necessarily the case. Some levels, enemies, and challenges might be easier if you pick a different ride.

That said, a lot of this comes down to how you like to play and your individual preferences. If you think the tank is the coolest thing ever, you can definitely pick it for every race. You'll want to upgrade it as fast as you can and you might find that some maneuvers are trickier in it than in other cars, but as long as you accept that some things will be challenging, you'll do totally fine.

Speaking of upgrades, it's a good idea to make sure that the cars you like to use have appropriate upgrade levels before each race. It's totally fine to go slow and replay the early levels for more points or go out of your way to farm upgrade currencies. As you get later in the game, it'll be more and more important that your vehicles are sporting good upgrades and gadgets that match the level of your enemies.

Car Eats Car is not a traditional racing game. Instead of rewarding braking and careful planning, it rewards fast reflexes, quick thinking, and improvisation. Be prepared to change your plans in the heat of battle as enemies get close and don't be afraid to take risks. The game rewards aggressive play, like using bombs, entering turbo mode, and smashing your enemies to bits. This is Car Eats Car, after all, not Gran Turismo.

Like other mobile games, Car Eats Car will try to entice you with microtransactions. The generic advice very much applies here - don't be afraid to go slow. If you're having fun with the game, getting all of the upgrades immediately won't make the game more fun. Instead, it'll give you an empty sense of accomplishment. Instead of spending lots of money, try pacing yourself and playing the game for a few minutes or hours each day, doing the things you find fun without worrying about stats, scores, or upgrades. You'll find the game a lot more enjoyable and you'll save quite a bit of cash.

Finally, be aware that the end of Car Eats Car is crazy hard. The last couple of levels are a big step up in difficulty from the rest of the game, which is already somewhat challenging. Don't beat yourself up if you're having trouble. This is totally normal. Instead, accept the challenge and try your best. It's not necessarily something you'll get in one sitting!
