DESCRIPTION

Genshin Impact is an open-world adventure game with lovable characters, sad stories, and beautiful scenery. It's a perfect escape from your daily routine that's designed to reward short, regular gameplay sessions, allowing you to build a team, meet friends, and even customize a home with just a few minutes each day.

Metagame Impact is a 3D action game available on iOS, Android, PC, PS4 and PS5. Although the game is free. new characters and powerful weapons are acquired via an in-game gambling system. You use an in-game currency called "primogems" to purchase "wishes," which you can then redeem for a chance to get a powerful new character or weapon. Primogems can be earned by completing quests, doing daily activities, participating in events, and purchased for real money in the in-game shop.

Genshin Impact is completely free to experience, but the nature of the gambling-inspired wish system means that free-to-play players have less control over the weapons and characters they get. Every few weeks, the rare characters and weapons that are available via the wish system rotate, meaning that you'll have to stockpile primogems and wishes or spend money to guarantee that you can get a character during an availability window. A pseudorandom "pity" system ensures that you'll get a character within about 180 wishes, but it can take a long time to stockpile that much in-game currency.

Genshin is one of the most polished video game experiences ever. The voice acting, music, art direction, graphics, and animations are all absolutely incredible, creating a detailed, massive world that's full of interesting NPCs and beautiful stories. Exploration is a strong pillar of the game, and you're rewarded for spending time exploring your environment. Not only will you get to experience a picturesque world, but you'll also find puzzles, treasure chests, and quests.

Unlike most other video games, Genshin dips its toes into gameplay elements rather than diving in head-first. The combat system is engaging, polished, and fun, but it's rarely the focus of the game. Instead, it usually serves as a backdrop for unique quests and rotating events. These events occur every couple of weeks and include things like tower defense minigames, stealth challenges, rhythm puzzles, gliding races, and special time-limited areas that players can explore. Just like other aspects of the game, these rotating events are well polished, easily accessible, and bite-sized.

With the exception of a few story quests, most content in Genshin is designed to be compatible with any schedule. You might not be able to complete your whole daily itinerary in Genshin over your lunch break, but you can pop the game open and do a puzzle, domain, or a daily quest in a few minutes. This makes Genshin Impact a great game to play on the go. As long as you can find a few minutes, you can relax in Teyvat.

The flip side of this is that Genshin has a lot of time-gated content that you can't do all at once. Many quest lines have sections that unlock a full day of real-time after you've completed the previous section, while other content is gated by a system called "adventure rank." Still more content requires you to spend an in-game currency called "Original Resin" to complete. You get a decent amount of resin for free each day, but many players who are used to other styles of videogames might find it odd that you can only do a few runs of an artifact domain or a world boss at a time. You'll have to put the game down and do something else for a few hours before your resin replenishes so you can do the activity again. It's definitely a frustrating system when you want to get something immediately, but it helps you space out your gameplay, avoid burning out, and ensures that you'll get plenty of opportunities to play Genshin Impact in the future.

How to play

More than other games, the wish and resin systems in Genshin Impact reward patience, planning, and self-discipline. With a bit of forethought and some self-control, however, you can get the characters you want and make your team super powerful without spending a lot of money on the game.

Above all else, your first goal in Genshin should be to have fun. The game is fantastically well-crafted, making exploring the world and relaxing in Teyvat a great experience. Try to be mindful of this goal as you play. If you find yourself rushing through an activity, take a moment to make sure that you're not robbing yourself of a fun experience. Genshin has a lot of gameplay activities and rotating events, and not all of them are for everyone, but make sure that you spend your time focusing on the journey, not the destination.

Your second goal should be to try to get your daily and weekly activities done regularly. Genshin gives players 4 daily quests each day. Completing these quests gives a lot of adventure rank, some item rewards, and a few primogems. The items and primos aren't huge, but they definitely add up. Doing dailies is one of the easiest and most consistent ways to get primogems.

Every few minutes, your original resin replenishes by a few points, up to a cap of 160. You can naturally replenish up to 180 resin every 24 hours. If you can, try to log in at least once a day to spend your resin on an activity that benefits your team. This might involve farming a boss for materials to ascend a character, doing an artifact domain for better gear, or doing a talent domain to improve your team's skills. Don't worry too much about spending 180 resin each day instead of 160. If you can do it, great. If you can't (or if you miss a day), don't worry too much. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

There are two opportunities to spend real-world money very efficiently in Genshin. First, the "Blessing of the Welkin Moon" gives you a bit more than half a wish worth of primogems each time you log in, up to 30 times. You can redeem this login bonus once per 24 hours, and there's no penalty for skipping days or taking breaks. Any remaining logins will be saved for when you get back. Blessing of the Welkin Moon is about $5 per month and gives you far more primogems per dollar than any other option. If you think you're going to spend money on Genshin, you'll want to pick up one of these early so you have the primogems ready when your favorite character's banner comes up.

Second, there's a battlepass that rotates every several weeks that gives you rewards for completing daily and weekly objectives. A small fraction of the rewards are free. For about $10, you can redeem the rest. Like battlepass systems in other games, the pass can be purchased after you've unlocked the rewards, enabling you to figure out exactly what you'll get before you buy it. If you start playing toward the end of a battlepass cycle, you might want to skip this purchase. If you intend to be a long-term player, however, the battlepass is both a great source of primogems (it's quite efficient compared to buying them directly) and an amazing source of in-game resources like gold, resin, and talent books.

Finally, make sure that you do a bit of research before you spend your wishes. Genshin Impact does a great job of hyping up upcoming characters and even lets you try out new characters in-game via a trial system and a special quest. Even after you've done that, you'll probably want to spend a few minutes making sure that the character you want is everything you hoped before you spend your hard-earned primos and wishes. It's a very good idea to wait a few days after a character is released to get opinions from a few different sources, especially if you don't plan to spend a lot of money on Genshin. If you can only get a few 5-star characters a year, it's much better to make each opportunity count than it is to jump the gun and get a character on day 1 of a 6-week banner.
