Plague Inc. is a unique simulation game where you have to strategize and work your way into totally ending the human race (you read it right!) through a well-formulated virus.
Plague Inc. is a paid game developed by Ndemic Creations. It has won numerous awards, including "The Players' Choice Award" in 2021 and "The Queen's Award" in 2018, both in terms of being an innovative mobile strategy game.
The game at hand is available for both Android and iOS systems. However, for countries that are still dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak, you may still be able to cop the game for free. Consider it a treat from the developers who want players like you to have a good time despite the pandemic (although it can be ironic considering the theme of the game).
That said, as per the official description, you will be playing as a scientist who has just developed a virus that can end humanity. You have already successfully infected Patient Zero with this, and, thus, it's now time for you to look at the bigger scale and finally be the root of a worldwide plague.
In the simplest sense, the game will focus on you vs. the world. This doesn't stay this way throughout the gameplay, though. Plague Inc. offers various expansions, which, together, form a complete storyline. For an overview, you can expect "Plague Inc: The Board Game," "Plague Inc: The Cure," and more.
Because of this, you can rest assured that you will also be able to work to save humanity instead of purely getting rid of the entire race.
Despite the fairly dark theme and objective, parents and guardians can still be free to let kids and teens play this. There are no gory scenes to watch out for, and no kind of brutality and other alarming topics are openly promoted. You may just have to explain to the younger ones how they shouldn't take the objective too seriously so it doesn't affect their mindset.
Going back, Plague Inc. is the kind of game that will earn a chef's kiss. It isn't repetitive and has qualities like being realistic, interactive, and brain-boosting. You will surely find yourself racking your brains out and trying to figure out the next move that you need to make.
The presence of news-like alerts about the current world events like the US elections is also present to better help you in strategizing.
Now, let's talk more about the virus. What is this, and is it simply a part of the storyline?
Unlike others, the virus stated repeatedly in the game isn't just a bystander feature. You will need to work on this throughout the time that you're playing the game.
With 12 kinds of viruses or diseases, your task is to modify them by adding new symptoms and side effects and then gradually making them worse. You can do this until you finally wipe out the human race. These will also mutate on their own, so even if you don't actively do anything, the game will get intense by itself.
All in all, it's safe to say that Plague Inc. is worth playing and investing both time and money in. For less than a dollar, you will get a full-featured game that will keep you on the edge of your seat while reaching for your rather diabolic goal.
In this section, let's talk about how to play Plague Inc. to get the most enjoyable gameplay.
First, we will start with the basics of the controls. Plague Inc. is a purely touch-based game. There's no need for controllers or separate joysticks. Every tool that you need is provided in the game's actual layout. Just play it as you normally would in a touchscreen game.
Moving on, the first thing that you need to do once you start the game is to choose a country from the presented world map. It's very realistic, considering the placements, names, and all, so you can just pick according to your preference. Just keep in mind that it will be the first place that you will need to totally infect.
Once you have chosen, it will mark the beginning of a new era - an infected world and the future end of the entire human race. It's okay to feel like a horrible person throughout the game. It's also okay if you use it as a coping mechanism for your pent-up anger (not for kids).
Anyhow, what's more, important is, how can you make achieve your goals faster?
You will mainly make use of the game's currency, DNA points, to do this. You will receive a significant amount at the start of the game.
Use the said points to speed up the transmission of the virus, increase the intensity or add new symptoms to those who are currently infected, and simply modify the abilities of both the virus and the infected.
You have a lot of choices under these since they come in tree-like gameplay. This means that, when it comes to symptoms, for instance, you have to unlock the minor one in order to unlock the deadliest symptom. You can do all these by opening the Diseases tab at the bottom part of your screen.
Your DNA points will increase by themselves as the infected also increases. It can be slow to generate, though. You will also notice that it can be hard to earn sums of the DNA points.
Because of this, it's just right that you put a lot of thought into how you will spend it. It's where the difficulty of the game lies.
Keep in mind that because of how realistic the game is, the citizens of the country you chose won't just stay still, waiting for them to get infected. Once you reach a certain number of infected, they will start to notice and work their own way towards the cure. You have to race with them and be the first one to give them diseases and kill them instead of the other way around.
