DESCRIPTION

Jump, hop across to the other side in Crossy Road, but look out for the cars.

Crossy Road first starts with a white clucky chicken on a map. Everything looks like it is made from square blocks. When you tap on the screen, the chicken will hop forward one step, to move sideways, you drag your fingers to the side you want the chicken to go. The game teaches you how to move without stress by placing your chicken in a forest. You can experiment with the controls as much as you want before you reach the side of the road.

In the settings page, you can set the language or select the conserve battery mode. You can also lock your phone on a landscape or portrait so that you can enjoy the game more. While you can play it in both portrait and landscape, the landscape mode offers more space for you to jump to the side. If you feel that the shadows are distracting you, you can switch it off in the settings page.

After you exit the forest, the fun begins. Your mission is to cross the road without getting hit by cars, trucks, and trains. The game starts out easily: simply watch out for cars as you hop forward with the chicken. You can pick up coins along the way when you are crossing the road. As you are trying to cross the roads, the cars will have different speeds. They will also be spaced out randomly. You will also encounter railway crossings. The only warning is the red light and a sound of warning before a train comes barrelling in either direction. If you are not careful, you will become a chicken pancake.

There is no music in Crossy Road, but your chicken will cluck when it moves forwards and let out a cry when it is hit by a vehicle. If you have other characters crossing, they will have their own unique sound. At the start, the cars are going at a slow or moderate pace, so chicken can hop forwards with no issue. After a few crossings, you will notice a few changes. The game adds a river with moving logs, and there are fewer footpaths, or safe zones for you to hop on.

It is normal to get hit by a vehicle, or drown in a river. The game will take a snapshot of what happened to your poor animal when you get hit or fall into the water. There will be times where you will find yourself back at the starting point often. You respawn at the edge of the forest, ready for you to take the first hop. The number on the left side corner is your score, which is 1 point per successful cross.

Collect coins along the way: they are yellow with the red C' on the floor. Sometimes they will jump a little, as if calling you to pick them up. Once you collect 100 coins, you get to go to the vending machine to draw out a new character to cross the road with. Characters such as a kangaroo, basketball player, a mallard and many more. You can pick your favorite one to cross the road at the bottom left corner. There are many characters you can play. These characters cost $1.29 to buy if you are collecting them, or you can collect coins to play at the vending machine for random characters in hopes to win one.

How to play

Crossy Road is a never ending crossing the road game, because it is hard to get to your destination with so many crazy cars and trucks zooming around. It is fun trying to beat your high score, and watch the number go higher and higher. The game does not make it easy as you go further along. The screen will move forward, and if you stay at the same spot and disappear off the screen, you lose and the game will restart.

Once you are confident in your crossing level, you can participate in the Pecking Order, which is where all the best players around the world go to be the best at crossing the road. Only the top players win gifts and unlock rare characters. So, once you know how to cross the road, you should try playing in Pecking Order to see where you are at with other players.

It is easy to play Crossy Road, because you tap to move forward and drag left or right for your character to hop in that direction. The main challenge is to time your movement according to the incoming traffic. You also cannot stay on the river forever. There is a white boundary line you have to stay within. Once the log moves past the white line, you will fall off the log and drown. Crossing the road can be stressful, especially if you see a lot of vehicles coming and the screen is moving forward quickly.

Because the map is generated randomly, there is no way to memorize the path. The cars can also drive fast or slow. The logs move fast or slow as well, and they vary in lengths. You cannot hop onto obstacles like trees and logs. While birds will fly away when you land on it, other land creatures will stop you. For that, you have to move sideways to a space. Ideally, you hop to the left side, as the screen moves forward, you have more time to hop ahead before the screen swallows you up.

While it is a straightforward game to play, Crossy Road is a hard game to master. Always try to look a few steps ahead before hopping, so it can be a clear road to the other side. Sometimes you might have to stop in the middle for a little breather, but make sure to watch out for incoming cars. The game lets you have a few breaths after a few hectic hops, but it will force you to keep moving. What is your best score in Crossy Road, share it so more people will like this game.
