DESCRIPTION

Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour combines the over-the-top animations and zany challenges of Dumb Ways to Die with modern mobile game microtransactions and progression. Choose between your favorite minigames and unlock characters, build a town, and more!

Dumb Ways to Die 3: World Tour is all about beans. In Dumb Ways to Die, you control a number of humanoid beans that attempt a series of ridiculously dangerous stunts. Your goal as a player is to guide the beans through their tasks and help them survive as long as possible.

Previous Dumb Ways to Die games utilized a rotating, random series of minigames that were similar to games like Wario Ware. In the old games, you never knew what was going to come next. Challenges were simple, unexpected, and imperfect. Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour changes that significantly. Instead of having a large number of short, randomized minigames, Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour has a smaller number of selectable games that can be played endlessly. This means you know exactly what you're going to play next.

The minigames in Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour are all practically ripped from other popular mobile games. You've got a Temple Run minigame, a Flappy Birds minigame, a classic platform game, a tower game, and more. All of these games are very much Dumb Ways to Die re-imaginings, not the original games, and you'll find plenty of differences between the "real thing" and the bean version in Dumb Ways to Die.

A big part of the appeal of the Dumb Ways to Die series is the over-the top cartoon violence. Rather than having a simple, sensible challenges and obstacles, the game goes out of its way to depict ludicrous situations and make them absurdly dangerous. Minigames are often very difficult for the first few playthroughs until you get used to the idea of how deadly the props and doodads in the game can be. Once you've figured out which things to avoid, however, you'll be able to run, jump, and fly for a while before meeting your next over-the-top cartoon death.

Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour utilizes just about every mobile game monetization trick in the book. There are ads, there are in-app purchases of characters and powerups, and you're enticed to spend money or watch advertisements at every corner. The developer should definitely be allowed to make money off of their charming and interesting game, but Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour seems to really stretch the limit of what's reasonable. Unlockable characters, a city builder, and other progression mechanics almost detract from the core zany gameplay of twisted bean death. The game seems like it would have been much better as a one time purchase model with more of an emphasis on game polish and less on microtransactions.

Speaking of polish, Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour has suffered from some optimization problems in the past. The minigames are fun and interesting on newer phones, but you'll still get the occasional hitch or stutter on even the most modern devices. Since the game is free, there's no need to worry about wasting money on a game that doesn't run well on your phone, but you'll definitely want to play through all of the minigames a few times before you purchase anything to make sure the game runs on your device.

How to play

The unlockable characters in Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour aren't just cosmetic. Each character has a small bonus that applies to various minigames, making some of them much better suited to some tasks than others. Numpty, the default character, is immune to fire damage, while other characters offer score multipliers, automatic coin pickups, extra lives, and more. Many of these characters are unlocked automatically when you repair certain houses. If you're trying to figure out how to unlock beans, you'll want to carefully repair these houses as soon as possible.

Stupe can be unlocked when repairing the medium house on the right in the second row of Dumb Peak. He offers an extra hit in the airplane minigame. Botch can be unlocked by watching ads, and he sucks in tokens that are close to him. Putz gives you a 100% token multiplier and is found in the medium sized house on the right of the third row in Dumbtune. These characters won't make or break your gameplay on their own, but they will help make things a little bit easier when you're trying to get a super high score.

The areas in Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour serve as a sort of passive income clicker game. Repairing houses generates small amounts of income over time. This means that if you want a lot of coins you'll want to slowly repair the houses and wait. Waiting is necessary to generate the coins needed to upgrade more houses, which in turn will generate more coins.

Speaking of coins, there's a landmark boost in each area that gives you a massive token multiplier in the minigames. When combined with the unlockable characters mentioned above, this means that a player who's unlocked all of the zones and characters will get an incredibly high score for getting even a few seconds into any minigame. A player who's just starting out will not. Don't worry about comparing your scores with the scores of others until you've unlocked all of these landmarks.

Because you can choose which minigame to play in Dumb Ways To Die 3: World Tour, you don't need to spend any time on minigames you don't enjoy. Instead of trying to get good at all of them, it's a good idea to focus on one or two that you have fun playing and maximize those instead. Space Drift and Flying Fiasco are quite fun for most people, with Space Drift generally being the easier of the two. Don't base this decision on internet advice, however. If you're a fan of running games or platformers, the respective minigames will probably be less difficult and more fun for you than they are for other people!
