DESCRIPTION

Do you know how to use a cardboard to Make It Fly?

Make It Fly is a creativity game where you try to make a person in a space suit fly towards the target area. The first time you play is putting a set of wheels onto your cardboard box, turning it into a car. You launch your car using the slingshot towards a green glowing square. While you are travelling, you will collect some flight badges while heading towards your goal.

The flight badges are your currency in the game, you use that to upgrade your slingshot, engine and coin bonus. When you upgrade your slingshot, it will give you a more powerful launch. The engine upgrade will show via a fuel tank on the left side of the screen, and once you run out of fuel, the plane will dip downwards and you will crash. The coin bonus adds more flight badges in your path for you to collect. Each upgrade will cost a certain amount of badges, and they give some advantages when you launch yourself.

When you collide with things like walls and boxes, you notice that your cardboard box plane will crumble and you will lose momentum. As the game progresses, you will have better parts and they will not breakdown so easily. Not every goal has a box waiting for you at the end, but those boxes contain parts. The boxes with stars also contain bonus gifts like flight badges, but they are harder to get. You will have to aim and determine how far you want to sling yourself towards the box.

Land within the borders of the green glowing box to pass the level. If you overshot, it does not count. Make It Fly is not only about deciding which parts you can use to reach your goal, but also how far to go. The game is not an aim and launch type. It encourages you to think outside the box to get to where you want. Once you master the art of flying indoors, the game will then take you to the great outdoors, where sky's the limit.

There are about 5 levels per base, and there are many new bases with elements. You can get creative on how you want to reach your goal, but the game will throw challenges at you along the way. It can drop items from above if you are flying upwards, or have things standing in between you and your green box of victory. Not all goals are high up, some are low down and require a certain finesse to get to.

Not every puzzle is a straight line, and if you are aiming at an angle, remember your cardboard plane can fly to the side. Sometimes the best parts are not the most suitable ones, because you may end up overshooting. As you progress, you have more parts to choose from, so you have many options to think about. While your aim is to pass the level, the game allows you to get creative on how you get there.

How to play

At every start of the new level, you click on the build button to put parts on the body of your plane. You might have a cardboard box first, but eventually you will get a better body. Try to avoid hitting obstacles when you launch, because the game behaves like the real world: the box will crumble and you will have to restart.

Make It Fly makes you think hard at the first few levels, because you have to keep collecting parts to fly better. The parts include wheels, wings, engine and tails. You can select the first multi box to see all the parts you have, plus ones that you may not use at the level. Once you are happy with the selection, you can launch your plane and see where it goes.

It is a series of trial and error before you hit the bullseye, so it can be frustrating if you miss the target a lot. Make It Fly behaves like things in the real world, so launching the slingshot at full blast with a high-powered engine is not a winning strategy. The sense of achievement is rewarding when you figure out how to get your cardboard plane to land in the box. Once you upgrade your slingshot and engine, you cannot undo it. Instead, you experiment with speed and launch power by not always launching your plane at 100%. While shooting ahead at full speed is great, some levels require you to launch towards the side, and that may cause your plane to curve too much and miss the spot. While tempting, upgrading is not always the best idea.

There are no other strategies in the game aside from collecting flight badges and boxes while you move from base to base. There are no steering wheels in the game, so the plane glides along until it hits something. Once you have a wooden plane body, the damage is less, but you will still slow down. You can plan to hit obstacles to slow your plane down as it flies, however, the impact may move your plane in a different direction.

The person in the space suit does not talk, and there is no music to distract you. When you launch your plane, the sound of the wheels turning is exciting. When it crashes, you hear your plane break into pieces. Hitting heavy obstacles will just stop your plane, while smaller boxes will slow you down. When you sling at an angle, sometimes the plane will curve.

There are not bonus parts you can buy with real money, each part has to be earned by reaching the wooding flying box at the end of the level. You gain satisfaction knowing that you have earned the part by designing your plane to fly. Experiment with parts and shooting angles to get to where you want to be. Make It Fly requires creative thinking and a lot of patience. It trains you to learn from your past mistakes and figure out a different way.
